The Amazon TV is, at this piont, is a new piece of equipment. So, coming from the Roku 3, my review will be more of a comparison than a straight review. I am right now one of those "cable cutters" that live life streaming most of my tv entertainment (everything except Blueray Movies and Video Games), so we use our devices every day. Accordingly this review is geared towards that type of usage.
So, getting to it, the Roku 3 was a solid platform for our favorite streaming services. The problem with our Roku 3, was it was very inconsistent. Some days, every wireless device in my house would connect to the Internet and stream movies just fine, all except the Roku that is. After talking with less than helpful (over seas) customer service agents until our very limited free coverage ran out. After 3 "secret menus" and a ton of adjustments (on the Roku and my wireless router) After a service visit from our Internet provider and a wireless router extender...
there was nothing that seemed to help the Roku preform better. So it was time for a change up.
First thing that I noticed about the Amazon TV was the low profile. The Roku 3 is shorter as far as length & width, but it is taller. The difference in height is not much, but it does make a difference. The Amazon TV is not shiny, colorful, or made to stand out as a "look at me! Here I am!" piece of equipment. It is an all black short square that blends well into my entertainment landscape (and I am perfectly fine with that ).
