Bike etiquette m8

I try to ride my bike in very remote low traffic areas but, to cross the river, I have to use th walking bridge between our cities. My question on etiquette lines when coming up behind some1 while riding. I've rang my bell b4 to alert them and git yelled at for being rude. When there's plenty of room I'll jus go to the outside and go by and got yelled at for not alerting them and scaring them. I use the phrase on your left or right and still get rude looks. So what am I suppose to do? And I walk my bike across bridge but on the path b4 and after I ride
