1892 -  Joshua Pusey received patent No. 483,165 for "Friction-match card" which later became known as the matchbook

1931 -  Lou Gehrig wrapped up his 6th straight season playing every game with the Yankees

1998 -  Google was launched. The company celebrated September 27th as it's birthday in 2006 despite the founders not being certain of the exact date the organization was established 

2003 -  Europe launched its 1st mission to the moon. The SMART-1 orbiter reached operational orbit on February 27, 2005

2014 -  Girlguiding North West England hosted the largest sleepover, pajama party recorded in Cheshire, UK with 2,004 people

2024 -  Maggie Smith died today. I loved her as Professor McGonagall in the Harry Potter films. I also recommend the movie Keeping Mum if you're a fan of dark humor. It's also the last film Patrick Swayze was in.
