Topic #8 Starbucks drinks to try
White Chocolate Crème Frappuccino® Blended Beverage with customizing to my liking.
I go to Starbucks maybe 4 or 5 times per year. So I don't go very often and I don't know that much about coffee and coffee drinks. I went to the Starbucks app and tried to learn more about coffee. I drink coffee and I like coffee. When I drink coffee at home or traveling, I usually drink coffee with sugar-free French Vanilla coffee creamer. I think I drink as much iced coffee as I do hot coffee, I like them equally as much as the other.
I really learned a lot from the website
Starbucks at Home
Did you know coffee starts out as a fruit. The fruit are called coffee cherries. The coffee cherries grow on two of main species of coffee trees, the Arabica and the Robusta. Starbucks only uses Arabica tree coffee cherries because of the high-quality flavor of arabica beans.
After the coffee cherries are picked from the Arabica trees, they go through the process of stripping the fruit part to get to the green coffee bean that's inside.
Green coffee beans are the raw seeds of coffee cherries that have been separated or “processed” and have yet to be roasted. All of a coffee’s taste and flavor potential is held within this green seed. This potential is ultimately unleashed through roasting the green coffee bean.
Another variable for coffee flavor is where the coffee beans are grown.
There are a lot of variables that makes the flavor of coffee. One of the most important process is the roasting of the green coffee bean. Coffee roasting is the process that brings out the flavors we look for in coffee. During roasting, the beans go through a chemical reaction called the “Maillard reaction” which causes sugar browning, caramelization and all-around deliciousness. They roast green coffee beans to bring out its aroma, acidity, body and flavor. Each coffee is roasted to a unique taste profile to highlight these inherent flavor
characteristics: that is why roasting is a true craft. Each coffee bean requires a unique balance of temperature and time to reach its individual peak of aroma, acidity, body and flavor. Starbuck's coffees are classified by three roast profiles.
The three levels of Starbucks roast spectrum indicate the types of body and flavor you can expect. Starbucks Blonde Roast coffees have a shorter roast time and lighter body for a smooth, flavorful cup. Medium-roasted coffees are well-rounded and balanced. Dark-roasted coffees feature a fuller body and rich, bold flavors. Each of these 3 profiles also have ranges of roasting making all the flavors In-between the 3 main coffee profiles.
As you can see a lot goes into making that cup of coffee that we love. From where the coffee cherries come from, the elevation of the Arabica tree, how the coffee cherries are processed to get that green coffee bean, to the art of roasting the coffee beans, to how you brew your coffee beans, working with the farmers for sustainability, and much much more on how we get that fruit on a tree to get that cup of coffee that's in your hand.
Now the different beans with different flavor profiles get to the Starbucks store.
Now, the baristas takes over and must use different methods of brewing for their specific drinks. They can brew the beans with hot water in a few minutes to brewing the beans in cold water for 12 to 24 hours to use in their cold brews.
Now, the customer orders their beverage from a barista. That leads to the Starbucks menu. The menu that Starbucks is using currently is the summer time menu.
Here are some of the beverages from hot to cold, to blended beverages.
Starbucks also has different food menus to pair with your drink of choice.
Now, this leads to my beverage of choice customized to what I like. I like a lighter flavored coffee, I like white chocolate, I absolutely love carmel, I like beverages that are blended like malts, shakes, and
smoothies.
I decided to order the
White Chocolate Crème Frappuccino® Blended Beverage as my base beverage.
Normally this does not have any espresso in this drink. Now, I am going all out on my customized beverage because I don't get to go to Starbucks only a few times a year and I consider this beverage a treat.
As you can see there are many options to choose from to customize any beverage.
As you can see, my beverage is not a healthy beverage. It has 650 calories with 72 g of sugar, and 225 mg of caffeine. Not only is my beverage not healthy, my beverage costs a lot because of my customized options.
But with that all said, my beverage tastes awesome. The white chocolate and carmel with the touch of vanilla that makes the texture more creamier. The fusion of all that mixed with 3 pumps of the Blonde espresso roast. Now top off this creamy, decadent and delicious blended beverage with whipped cream and carmel drizzle and you have my drink of choice that is so tasty and delicious.
