Is it what I really like?
Knowing what are our favourite foods in the world is difficult to tell. This is because nobody has ever tried every single food in the world. As well as having their national foods, most countries have also regional and local foods.
As an example, where I come from in Italy we have some dishes that are either improved recipes from other regions, such as Polenta (in the province where I come {Valtellina} from we add buckwheat to corn flower giving it a twist and a boost in flavour, plus Polenta Taragna, which is the same local version with added local melting cheese), and our own food that cannot be found or is not popular anywhere else in Italy, such as Pizzoccheri della Valtellina and Sciat. Both of them are made with buckwheat. We also have several other local dishes, often using wild animals' meat.
What are my favourite dishes?
Italy
- Locally, I love Polenta Taragna, Pizzoccheri and Sciat.
- Nationally, I love Lasagne and Pizza (I suppose most of you know these two dishes), Pepperoni 🍕 is usually what I eat most often.
- Also, have you ever heard of Caciucco? It Is a super gorgeous 😍 fish soup that originated in Tuscany's sea side. You should try it.
- There are also several other dishes that I like.
Spain
- Paella, this is one of the few dishes I know from Spain.
- I suppose I would love some of the Tapas and other dishes
England
- Most consider English food as really bad and bland, however, I much prefer it to foods from several other countries (such as France, I will get to it later).
- Dishes I like are: Fish and Chips, Jacket Potatoes, Cottage/Shepherd's Pie.
- English Breakfast.
Korea (South and North)
- Korean BBQ such as Sangyupssal (Pork Belly) and Kalbi (Korean beef on the bone).
- Naeng Myun (I am not sure if I spelt it right), it is a cold soup made with noodles and ice, often with mustard, and it has it's own regional variations. They also call it Pyongyang Noodles Soup, because they have originated in Pyongyang, the capital in North Korea and it is popular in the whole Korean peninsula.
- Korean Soups. South Korea is very popular also for their fantastic soups, especially, there is a beef soup (I forgot the name) which is super good.
- Korean instant noodles. To me, Korean instant noodles are the best you can find around. I am aware many people love Indomie from Indonesia, to me Korean instant noodles can't be beaten, especially those in packs (not cup noodles). My favourites are (1) Shin Ramyun and (2) Chajangmyun (I have probably mispelt this word too).
- There are other very good Korean dishes worth to mention, such as Mandu (Korean dumplings), however I stop here.
Japan
- Sashimi, aka raw fish slices, it is a fantastic Japanese dish (they also have a very good Korean version where they dip the raw fish into Gochujang (Korean chilli paste).
- Sushi 🍣 of course, it doesn't need to be mentioned.
- Ramen, every areas have got their own variations, such as miso, Hakata and so on. The broth is usually boiled for at least 12 hours. Finished the noodles and you have soup left? Don't worry! You can order another portion of noodles for a very affordable price.
- Soba, which are buckwheat noodles. I love the version that comes with the cold soup.
- Udon noodles, they are very nice.
- Other fantastic dishes include Okonomiyaki and Tako Yaki (from Osaka), Hiroshima Yaki (Hiroshima version of Okonomiyaki), Kara'age and Tori Ten (fried chicken. Tori Ten from Oita Prefecture), there is also another noodle soup dish originated from Oita Prefecture that I really like and I forgot it's name.
- Gyoza (Japanese 🥟 dumplings, very similar to Korean Mandu)
China
- They have many noodle and rice dishes
- Peking Duck with pancakes (even though the capital of China now went back to its original name of Beijing)
- Chinese vegetables such as Pak Choi and Kai Lan (Chinese broccoli 🥦)
- They also have many others such as Chinese Dumplings and many others.
Thai
- Green Curry is the best curry I have ever had. Red curry is also very nice too, they are very similar in flavour. Jungle curry is also gorgeous, it is similar to the first two but without coconut milk.
- Pad Thai noodles are also very good.
- Thai Prawn Crackers
- Tiger Cry, which is a beef steak dish.
- And many others.
Other dishes worth to mention form all over the world
- Pho, which is a Vietnamese soup
- Bhan Me, Vietnamese Baguette 🥖 filled usually with pork or chicken.
- Mexican 🌮 Taco.
- Tortilla Wraps.
- A nice American Burger.
- Argentinian Steak.
- Brazilian cut on the table.
- Kebab.
- Many Lebanese dishes are very nice.
- Moroccan Tagline.
- German Sausages.
- Swiss Raclette and Fondue.
There are several other fantastic dishes from all over the world.
I am aware that several people are disappointed that I didn't add any French food. I went to France for a few days, I had several local dishes and I have to say that I was disappointed. Other people that travelled to France agree with me. One dish that I haven't tried that I would like to try is called Bouillabaisse, and it is originated in Marseille.
