Netflix Series "YOU" Review

https://community.cashwalklabs.io/tv_and_series_reviews/1730688

"You" is a Netflix series centered around Joe Goldberg, played by Penn Badgley, a seemingly charming bookstore manager with a dark side. The show explores themes of obsession, love, and the impact of social media on relationships. Joe becomes infatuated with different women throughout the series, and the narrative often delves into the blurred boundaries between genuine connection and the dangers of stalking.

On the positive side, the show ventures into dark and uncomfortable territories, prompting viewers to reflect on the darker aspects of human nature. Penn Badgley's portrayal of the protagonist is undeniably compelling, offering a nuanced performance that adds complexity to an otherwise one-dimensional character.

However, the series succumbs to its own ambitions, often resorting to clichéd plot twists and predictable story arcs that undermine its potential. The attempts to make the protagonist sympathetic, while commendable in their daring approach, sometimes blur the line between moral ambiguity and a misguided attempt at romanticizing toxic behavior.

Despite its flaws, "You" occasionally shines in its message. The show raises thought-provoking questions about the consequences of our increasingly connected world and the blurred boundaries between online and offline personas. Some moments showcase the potential for insightful commentary on the pitfalls of contemporary society. However, these glimpses of brilliance are overshadowed by the show's overall struggles with pacing, cliché scenarios, and a failure to consistently deliver on its themes. In the end, "You" stands as a series with a great message, but its inability to keep up a cohesive and engaging narrative prevents it from reaching its full potential.
