Haven't seen England in forty years

The last time I was in England was in 1985. I was a college exchange student outside Reading. Back then, I did everything on the cheap. Next year, my husband and I will fly to England and spend at least a week on land before cruising from Southampton. We have more resources  than a college student and want to do and see so much, we can't narrow it down. If your American friend was visiting you where would you take them?
