Cardio exercise for people with limited mobility
Cardio or cardiovascular exercise is any exercise that increases your heart beat. Cardio exercise, which is sometimes referred to as aerobic exercise, is any rhythmic activity that raises your heart rate into your target heart rate zone. This is the zone where you burn the most fat and calories. As your heart beat and breathing increases, it strengthens your heart and lung capacity which increases your endurance. As you exercise, your heart and lungs oxygenate your blood. This oxygenated blood is distributed throughout your body to your major organs, muscles, and other tissue. This improves your heart strength, lung capacity, and overall endurance.
I have mobility issues and I need a cardio workout that is low impact and provides the benefits of a cardio workout. The swimming pool is that instrument that meets those two requirements. Whether it's water aerobics, walking, swimming, or many more exercises that a swimming pool can provide; to lower the impact on my muscles and joints and provides the cardio that I need. If you are in water up to your chest, 80 percent of your body weight is absorbed. That means you can exercise without pain or impact on your joints.
Water aerobics offers a low-impact, high-resistance exercise suitable for individuals at all fitness levels, including those with joint issues or limited mobility. The buoyancy of water reduces the stress on joints and the spine, making it an ideal activity for those with arthritis or recovering from injuries. Water aerobics also enhances flexibility and balance, as maintaining stability in water engages core muscles. The social aspect of group classes can further contribute to mental well-being, making water aerobics a comprehensive option for improving overall fitness and health.

Stand up straight, engage your core, keep feet flat, and if you are water walking, walk heel to toe, no walking on your tippy toes, remember to breathe, inhale through your nose and exhale through your mouth. Also to increase resistance or aide in support, there are water weights or dumbbells, pool noodles, kick boards, and many other tools you can use in your workout.
The swimming pool provides a great cardio workout for those who have limited mobility. The buoyancy and resistance of the water gives you an effective and pain free workout. Swimming pool exercises are the best for me and my disability. Whether you are a senior, have an injury, have limited mobility, or you just like being in the pool, I highly recommend to everyone to give swimming pool exercise a try.
